Garmarna live at the Backstage in Seattle
Garmarna is one of several unique-sounding folk-rock bands from Sweden. The hurdy-gurdy player is Stefan Brisland-Ferner on hurdy-gurdy. This photo was taken at their concert at the Backstage in Seattle in October 1996, on their North American tour following the release of their CD Guds Spelemän (Gods Musicians) . Their music is an interesting blend of Swedish folk played on an array of acoustic and electric instruments, backed by a drummer. Stefan's instrument is a Swedish style, based on the Grodda Lira, with an unusual extra row of keys and an extra drone. It was built by Leif Eriksson. A fifth member of the band (the drummer) is hidden from view.
